The Great Teething Crisis of October 2014

Hey there! Long time, no see. Sorry that I have been even more sporadic in my blog posting than usual. I know you fall apart without me, right? Y’all, the last 2 weeks have been ROUGH. It started with Jonathan leaving town for a work trip just as Forest was gearing up to cut two molars. The molars took a full two weeks to break the surface and in the meantime I was left with a non-napping, miserable, clingy, fussy little guy.
Teething has been really hard for us. Forest is a sensitive guy so it always affects him pretty bad. His personality completely changes from a cheerful, independent baby to a needy, fussy, pitiful little thing. And when we're in the thick of it, I just lose sight of the fact that it’s temporary and I worry that maybe he went through a personality change and my happy confident baby is gone for good.

This teething episode was particularly bad because he wouldn’t let me examine his mouth long enough to be sure that teething was actually the culprit. I’d get quick glances into the back of his mouth where I’d think I’d see a jagged white thing just below the surface, but 2 minutes later I’d be full of doubt. After about a week of crankiness, early rising and nap protesting, we finally had irrefutable proof and both teeth were immortally captured on film.

It truly felt like trying to find the Loch Ness Monster for a while there. But seriously, I felt crazily relieved when I saw those two teeth and knew that Forest was completely justified for his recent sleeping and behavioral issues.

So for now we have two molars in and are enjoying the eye of the storm until the top two inevitably follow close behind. The drool fountain has started back up so we’re bracing ourselves for the worst over the next few weeks.
Just in time for our vacation next week... I’m sure nothing helps teething babies sleep quite like going to bed in a 'pack n play' in an unfamiliar room (sarcasm). Good thing we have just planned a nice relaxing vacay on the coast with no real agenda so we can just take each day as it comes. Still, your prayers would be greatly appreciated!

(PS. As I write this baby boy has just woken from a 39 minute nap so maybe the other two molars  are making their way as we speak…).

Accompanying the arrival of his two bottom molars has been a pretty significant hunger strike on Forest’s part. Foods that he once loved have now become fun items to toss to the dog.
Forest is on a strict edamame and cheese diet while Samson enjoys plenty of unwanted butternut squash, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, etc. I’m hoping this new ‘choosiness’ is teething related though I’ve heard 12 months can bring about the first signs of picky eating. Again, your prayers are appreciated.
To make the past two weeks even harder, my computer died.  First the USB ports stopped working so I couldn’t upload pictures and then the charging port stopped working as well, meaning my computer slowly ran out of its last juice right after we managed to back her up one last time. We could have paid to have it fixed but since she was on her last leg and we’d planned to get a new computer for Christmas anyway, we decided to go ahead with the purchase.

We decided to veer away from Dell and went with an HP this time. Hopefully we’ll have better luck with this brand and get a computer that’ll last us more than 3 years. It’s been a bit of a learning curve getting everything set up which has been leading to less blogging on my end. Computer worries plus a cranky/non-napping baby lead to a pretty brain-dead blogger.

Hopefully I’ll get back into the groove soon and get back into a more regular posting schedule. And hopefully I will get an attitude check and start posting some positive things in the near future. I just read through this post and woah it is full of complaining.

I'm just trying to keep it real and sometimes this motherhood stuff is pretty hard. And then sometimes it is full of joy. Sometimes it is both, all in the same day. Like when you're not sure what to do with a demanding little monster so you toss him in the baby pool and see glimpses of your adorable angel once again....

And the silver lining is that they only have 20 baby teeth and Forest officially has 10 which means we are halfway there! WOOHOO!!!!!!
